Belle & Sebastian

I am SO sorry for this long overdue post. I must admit that I fell in love with Ludo and it was difficult to tear away from them! I am back now though, and I have something new and exciting! (and by new, I meant they have been around since 1996) Who, you ask?

BELLE & SEBASTIAN!

That's right! Belle & Sebastian managed to pull me out of my Ludo haze. This septet formed in Scotland, and have since been called Scotland's greatest band. With more than a decade under their belt, you can imagine the history they have accumulated. If you are interested in that, please see wikipedia or their official website, www.belleandsebastian.com One bit of history that you may already know is their recent recognition on the Juno soundtrack! They caught my attention with the two songs featured there (should be playing now. If not, turn up your volume)

For me, they are very Beatles-esque. Their songs are all very light and upbeat. They have a great mix of modern and retro without compromising their witty lyrics and great sound. Their genre is most commonly called "twee pop," but I would equate it more to bubblegum pop. This group isn't going to leave you riled up or introspective, but they will leave you dancing along with a smile on your face!

As for me, this isn't my favorite sound in the world. I prefer a more aggressive sound with stinging lyrics, but I loved having this as a backdrop while I got to know their music. They were perfect when I needed something to tap my toes to as I did my homework. Short of that, they don't do too much for me. I only really felt like I connected with one or two songs, and never found one that I couldn't live without. I respect this group for the sound that they put together though. They are obviously spectacular artists.

fav song : Mary Jo (sorry, I couldn't get it on the play list)
